Because it’s holiday season once again, there’ll be ample to do in the Garden Route over the coming weeks. In fact, some of the most popular events take place at this time of year. Check them out below. |

Upcoming events in George and the Garden Route |

Now in its 6th year, the highly successful Whale Rally takes place in Plettenberg Bay from 3 – 5 June. With attendance growing impressively each year, the rally now draws about 1,500 bikers, and all money raised goes to worthy charities within the Ulysses Garden Route area. Aside from all the action on two wheels, the event also features plenty of food stalls, competitions, bar facilities, a lucky draw, stalls, a huge “kuier” area and, of course, the awesome concourse, which attracts some fantastic bikes!

| Meanwhile, for those seeking a slightly greater road racing challenge, the Forest Run takes place from 17-19 June in the Garden Route, and offers a “dream world to be discovered within the forests of SAN Parks”. Only athletes who have finished a marathon in the past 6 months will be allowed to compete, which gives you an idea of the difficulty of this event! However, for those who make the cut, the rewards are sure to be great. Moreover, there’s prize money of R30,000 to be won. Participants will race 100km through some of Southern Africa’s most magnificent forests, and enjoy unspoilt trail-running over rivers and the Outeniqua mountains.

| !For those who won’t be taking to their bikes, there’s the fun-filled Garden Route Mall Run taking place on 11 June. Choose between the 10km run/walk, or the 5km fun run, both of which kick off at the Garden Route Mall in George. Drinking stations will be set up at regular intervals throughout the race, and prizes will be awarded to the winners and runners-up. |

|
Yet another fantastic mountain biking event is coming to the Garden Route: The Garden Route Lite / Seriously Strong 200, an inaugural MTB event that was established following the immense success of the first Cannondale GR 300. The race, which takes place from 10 – 12 June, features a brand new single track, and a Knysna lagoon-side race village. Full medical and bike back-up will be available to participants, all lunch and dinners are catered, and there’ll be coffee and rusks at the starting point. In all, it’s set to be a fabulous MTB event that is certainly not to be missed if you’re an avid cyclist!
