Although the Garden Route has outgrown its wood-cutters image a long time ago, it became a tourist haven for many thousands of fun- and sun-seekers, that is why Mitchell and Hayden families and some other investors (5 in total) decided to start the project to build Pine Lodge early in 1981.
Mr Mitchell initially planned to build thirty luxury chalets, a restaurant and a camping site. Back then it was discussed that the chalets were to be used for holidaymakers during the holiday seasons and during the year were to be rented out on a monthly basis. It was decided that the Resort would be named Pine Lodge, because of the abundance of pine forests in the area at that stage. Subsequently, the lodge became so popular that they decided to build on more chalets for a tourist establishment that would run permanently throughout the year and there was no more space left for the caravan park.
Pine Lodge grew over the years and earned 3-star recognition with all families and holidaymakers who keep on coming back because of its unique location and family-friendly approach.
